About Me
I received my B.A. in Anthropology from New York University and my M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2018, my dissertation was awarded the Society for American Archaeology's Dissertation Award.
I am presently employed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alabama. I am an archaeologist who is also trained as a paleoethnobotanist or archaeobotanist specializing in the archaeology of the Andean region of South America. My research takes place primarily in coastal Peru where I have worked for over a decade on several archaeological projects investigating the role of plants in ancient foodways. Furthermore, I have been a participant in research projects taking place in Taiwan, Belize, El Salvador, Mexico, Georgia, and West Virginia. I am also interested in the ethical dimensions of archaeological practice and am a proponent of increasing ethical training for students of archaeology. Currently, I am organizing the Society for American Archaeology's annual Ethics Bowl competition. I also organized the 2019 Society for Amazonian and Andean Studies conference and serve as program chair of the 2022 and 2023 Institute of Andean Studies annual meetings. |
